SMERGS
The Killara Cup
7th September 2007
In an effort to deter any terrorists, the Killara Cup was played in deplorable weather conditions. Even terrorists would not believe any delegate would play in such conditions.
Flooded greens and soggy fairways did not deter the brave delegates going forth in search of fame. The event was finally reduced to 16 holes due to total darkness. The longest drive on the 18th was decided in the pitch black with the winning ball identified by a lighter. (Taking advantage of the darkness, one SMERG was seen throwing his ball forward in an attempt to claim fame.) Congratulations to Peter Macdougall for winning the inaugural Killara Cup. (Sorry for the confusion, it was pouring at the time)
The highlight of the event was a sumptuous dinner at the Thorntons. Great food, great wine and great company. (Big thanks Jane and the SMERGette helpers.)
Every delegate is looking forward to the next Killara Cup that will be played when the next APEC conference is held in Sydney in 2015.
