Current
titleholder: Alan Waddington & Bruce Rowe
The
Event: 9 Holes Stableford Event with a NTP on 17 and LD on 18.
Tournament
Organiser: Peter Thornton
The
Game: Peter swears that there was no longest drives or nearest
the pins for this event, well the above might suggest the contrary, the events
calendar probably would indicate the same, but Peter, you're the man!!!
How are we going to work this one out? I can suggest that we take
submissions to establish who the winners were! Phil S. hit a big one on
the last, any other suggestions?
Some pretty low scores and high points, both Alan and Bruce off 16 hcp scored
21 points with 38 shots. Very consistent guys, well done. Bruce is
quickly getting a reputation for being a "big game" player, saving
himself in the normal stuff, just wait till he starts speaking with an American
accent, keep that trophy cupboard firmly locked Peter, you never know!
The rain obviously didn't hamper the day with that kind of hitting, although as
far as miracles go I'm not too sure how many were had. I can honestly say
that if I'd have got a putt inside three feet, THAT would've been a miracle!
Well done smergs, a good turn out and a great game had by all.

THIRD ANNUAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
(hereinafter referred to as ‘The
Championship’) for the
QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY REPUBLICAN
TROPHY (the ‘BEIGE JACKET’)
ROYAL NORTHBRIDGE G.C. – Monday
12th June, 2000
Order of Play
·
The Club Championship shall be played over 18 holes. The
first tee will be available from 6.30 am. All competitors should be on the
first tee for the ‘Call to Order’ by 6.20 am.
·
Groups shall be determined using the traditional SMERGS
method.
·
Players shall be required to contribute 3 new
individually-boxed golf balls each (balls to match the boxes, please; Rockets
acceptable) by way of entry fee.
·
Because members have experienced some embarrassment (even
felt really stupid) in the singing of the SMERGS song (especially near a main
thoroughfare), this will NOT be part of the proceedings. Instead, each member shall
recite (sotto voce if preferred) "I still call Northbridge
home" as he tees his ball on the first tee.
·
Play shall be from the blue tees.
·
The designated marker for each group shall be required to
keep the stroke and stableford score for each player in his group, as well as
to calculate the team’s stableford average.
Events:
1.
Club Champion Winner:
Net stroke score for 18 holes (Champion’s Beige Jacket plus 12
balls* plus trophy); Runner-up: 6 balls
2.
Front 9 Stableford
score (excluding winners of events 1 and 3) (6 balls)
3.
Back 9 Stableford
score (excluding winners of events 1 and 2) (6 balls)
4.
NTP Hole
# 5, 15, 16, 17 (3 balls each)
5.
NTP in 2 Hole
# 2 (3 balls)
6.
Longest drive Hole
# 18 (3 balls)
7.
Teams Coffee
bill to be calculated using traditional SMERGS method
Notes:
1.
SMERGS handicaps current on the day of competition shall
apply.
2.
In the event of ties, all prizes shall be shared with the
exception of the Club Championship. In the event of a tie in that event, the
winner shall be determined by a countback based on the relative aggregates of
groups of 3 holes.
3.
*Ball prizes have been calculated based on 16 SMERGS
participating. In the interests of equity, justice and fair play (for which the
SMERGS are famous), the Seconded Acting Honorary Tournament Director -
Temporary reserves the right to adjust prizes on the day.
Good luck to all!
