The Cypress Lakes Classic (back to top)
2003 SMERGS on
Tour - Event 1
2 March 2003
Location: Cypress Lakes
Tournament Organiser: Nick Hillyard
A perfect field of 12
participants gathered for the prescribed 8am Tee time. Handicaps were
allocated by the simple method of adding 30% to the latest SMERGS handicap.
Players were seeded 1 to 12 with the lowest marker as 1 and the highest as 12.
Teams were then formed by placing players sequentially in order to give each
team a spread of handicaps.
As per the traditional method for 18 hole SMERGS on tour handicapping, shots
were lost on the basis of winner front 9, winner back 9 and winner overall. In
the event that one person won all 3 categories, they would lose 2 shots and the
runner(s) up in the 9-holes where the winner shot their lowest score would also
lose 1 shot.
As players were asked
to pick up when they could no longer score any Stableford points on a hole,
there are no Strokeplay scores.

Coffee: Group No. 2
The Royal Northbridge S.M.E.R.G.S. (back to top)
THE TOURNAMENT:
Teams of 3
or 4 to play an ambrose event over nine holes.
The handicaps are to be added and then divided by the number of players in
the group times two (ie 3 players, divide by 6).
Each
player in a four player group must have his drive used twice except one player
selected at the beginning (with normal SMERGS diplomacy) must use three drives;
in a three player group each player is to have his tee shot used three times.
Each player is to put in one brand new boxed ball in accordance with the definition as defined by the SMERGS match playing committee.
No loss of handicap considering measly number of golf balls submitted!
THE WINNERS:
1.
The winning group will be
determined by the lowest nett score. –
2.
The group with the lowest gross
score will be acknowledged as having achieved exactly that on the day. –

if preferred) "I still call Northbridge home" as he tees his ball on
the first tee.
·
Play shall be from the blue tees.
·
The
designated marker for each group shall be required to keep the stroke and
stableford score for each player in his group, as well as to calculate the
team’s stableford average.
