DDD Matchplay Championship (back to top)

The 2021 Draw, Seeding and Rules

Click on thumbnail to open full size

On a bright and breezy Sunday morning the final of the DDD was played between “Jumping” James Halliday and “Ballistic” Tim Becker. Tim rushed out early to +2 lead but James kept nurdling his way around the course and managed to pull it back to +1, But Tim won the 17th to claim the championship 2 up and 1 to play. A great spirit prevailed between the adversaries who kept a check on each other and regularly gave the Referee advise to “shutup” mostly when he got the score wrong.
In the playoff for 3rd and 4th place between the Ricks, Ricky B elected to rush off in the first group, leaving Ricky C to play in the second last group. Apparently, and I have this on good authority from the Bobbitt TD, halfway round he realized this faux pas and said he’d have to concede so the record will show that the Ricky C was the 3rd place getter.
Tim was awarded the balls (with balls still owed to Tim by Penny, ThorntonD, Figgis, Urwin , Ferreira and the O’Donovan’s) and a consolidation prizes of a sleeve of three Hurricane balls, possibly of the outdated size dating from the last century, were awarded from the TD’s  own supplies to James and Ricky C. Next year the event will be organized by “Ballistic” Tim Becker. Many thanks to all those who participated and congratulations for completing the entire tournament, repechage and all, before the final deadline.

St Nicholas Cup at St Michaels   (back to top)

Wednesday 12 January 2022, 7:30am

Tournament Organiser:  Rick Butler

2022 Results:

Warm, humid day at St Michaels in excellent condition.  11 SMERGS plus special guest Jake (visiting from Singapore with Lucy Hillyard).
TD Rick, to facilitate fast play, said we could adopt the Irish Drop rule for unexpected lost balls (this excludes balls lost in red penalty areas).  In this case you drop at the nearest point to where the ball was lost for a two shot penalty.
Team event to be decided by simple average.

Welcome return of Declan O'Donovan who enjoyed being a SMERG again while not eligible for the major prizes due to long absences while pursuing a professional golf career.  TD Rick easily won with 35 points spurred on no doubt by the 30+ performance of his two team members.  So Team 2 easily won the teams event as well.

Thanks as always to TD and long term St Micks member, Ricky B, who celebrated his sixth win at his revered course.
